Here you go...a truly one of a kind, shipping container cabin! This little beauty is the brainchild of Hive Modular architect Paul Stankey and his wife Sarah Nordby. Built in northern Minnesota, this "family cabin" is an exploration of ready-made products, recycled materials and shipping containers within a very tight budget.
Set in the woods, this container cabin has a great modular feel...and the large window in the middle is very cool allowing tons of natural light to enter the structure. Great use of existing materials...I definitely like this container cabin more than some of the larger container developments I have seen in the past. They used the containers to build and complement the overall design but still incorporated other materials like glass and wood to finish the job. Great work! I definitely want one of these things!
I actually came across these pictures last night on flickr. I noticed that the guys who posted them, matt olsen and mike brady, are designers for rosenlof lucas, a modern design firm interested in sustainable solutions for outdoor spaces. They blog at rolu dsgn.
good find. Looks a little unfinished but I guess that's part of the charm if you like these things (I do).

I think they still have some touch up to do...it will be interesting what the final product will look like.

Thanks for the kind thoughts. Yeah it is still under construction. We have a little work to do on the outside and a ton on the inside. We hope to be done with the loft area this fall. We tinker on it a little bit each weekend....

I command you for your efforts in implemanting Green design and solutions as well as modern architectural features. I love the glass, and grey... From the aesthetic point of you, I wish to see more integration... Maybe painting these containers a complimenting grey would do the trick. Keep up the GOOD WORK!

Who made them? For me, Majid's son is the most likely but its far from clear. Most viewer will try to answer this puzzle. To watch the film and not to look for real answers after beeing given such a heavy steer through the direction, would be absurd.Nice sweater! The fit is perfect, the color is great and the cables are fantastic! Great job, I know hubby must love it.

The idea is good but the design needs to be tweaked. Paul Stankey is doing what a lot of people should have done years ago. There are way too many of these containers building up in ports especially in CA.

I am simply out of words after reading your blog. I want to appreciate the way you handled such a complicated subject. Nothing better than this could be written in such a simple manner! Hats off dude!!!

Oh wow! A few finishing touches and you wouldn't even know it's a shipping container to start with! I think these are way cheaper than traditional building materials too!

That cabin is so cool. It is such a great idea especially for those who can afford the expensive one. Your used and simple shipping container can turned out into a new amazing cabin, house, office or anything you like.
