System House is Modular + Prefab

The system house was originally developed as a first-aid station of sorts that could be shipped and constructed quickly in the case of a natual disaster.  The system house consists of 5 basic pieces that can be mixed, matched and stacked to build whatever you want.  It's actually a nice little prefab...definitely a modern look with "livable" possibilities.

BORDERLESS ENTRY: Green Building Enters Cyber Realm

Ever hear of these prefab homes:  the Lanta House?  Doomak House?  Simphan House?  Without knowing better, you might guess that these prefabs were designed by Michelle Kaufmann Designs or Marmol Radziner + Associates.  Well, they're not.  In fact, the above prefabs don't even exist in the real world.  They were created for use in the on-line game Second Life.  That's right, a prefab, created on-line for use in a computer game, with a small environmental footprint but sold for cash.  Confused? 

Sustainable Weekend Getaway: Miniature Prefab by Soren Korsgaard

Nothing wrong with a weekend getaway...especially if its in a trendy, prefab home!  Mr. Korsgaard uploaded this video to youtube a couple of weeks ago.  Looks as if Soren (the architect) is active on youtube but it looks like his website isn't.  Anyway, his creation is a small prefab home consisting of 5x5 meter main room.  Each side of the main room has a door that can be opened up, allowing the resident to have it completely closed or open to the outside, depending.

The G-box By Sarah Wigglesworth Architects

You want small...I'll give you small.  The G-box by Sarah Wigglesworth Architects.  This tiny little space is a plywood-clad cabin design and comes fully insulated so that it can be used all year round.  It is prewired and comes ready to be hooked up to the electrical grid.  The website says it comes in a kit and can be fully assembled by two people.  If you live in London, you can have one of these things delivered, by crane, completely assembled.  If you had the right set up and could smoothly integrate the G-box to your home (not necessarily attaching it but setting it up in the backyard or something), you could definitely add additional equity to the market value of your home without a lot of costs incurred for construction, drawings and renderings from architects, etc.       

MIBS Prefab - Modular Impermanent Building System

Here is a video from db3haus on yootoob.  Its a follow up to the bCube post yesterday...another prefab animation that showcases their modular impermanent building system prefab (MIBS Prefab).  The music is a bit festive on the first one but its only a minute long.  The company is D'b3haus Technologies Corporation and for this video they claim the title of undisputed world champions in modular impermanent prefab building systems.  Allright!

bCube Shelter Gone Green, Modular, and Prefab

I came across this on youtube.  Its a prefab structure called the bCube.  The video shows some concept drawings of the prefab "blocs", which look great and stack together nicely.  Each of the units are stacked on top of each other, connected by a staircase topped off with a green roof.   They claim to be 100% green, lowest carbon dioxide emission, lowest carbon footprint and lowest energy consumption...but I am not sure what they are comparing to.  Another video showcasing the bCube placed their starting price at $10,000.  I will keep you posted if I find a website or other info.

Prefab Collaboration By Hive Modular + Rosenlof Lucas

Check out this youtube video of a modern home by Hive Modular.  Rosenlof Lucas collaborated on the project by doing the landscape design of the home.  This prefab home was assembled in 3 1/2 hours on site.  The film focuses on the landscape design piece of the home, which is extremely important to any green project.  Green landscape design can, at times, receive less fanfare than green building techniques BUT landscape design should definitely be given consideration in any "green" project or environmental footprint calculation.

 

Hive Modular's Modern X-Line Model Prefab

Happy 4th of July and God bless our troops!  Hope everyone has a relaxing day! Came across some cool pictures of a Hive Modular home this morning.  It's their X-Line model and they had firm Rosenlof Lucas do the landscape architecture.  Hive uses a modular construction system, which reduces the overall build time of a structure, improves quality control and reduces actual construction time.  When you look at one of their X-Line models, everything has a built-in, maintenance-free/worry-free type of feel.  Due to location constraints, pricing on a structure can differ...$140 per sq/ft in the Midwest versus $200 per sq/ft west of the Rockies for a complete turn-key modular home sans design, delivery and setting costs.  $200 per sq/ft still isn't that bad considering the quality that you are receiving.  Hive Modular is one of the best prefab, modular companies out there...especially for the price.
